Engineering Staff College, Bangladesh (ESCB) is a unique institution set up in May 2001 by the premier body of professional engineers of the country, the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB). It is an autonomous organization of IEB governed by a Board of Governors responsible to the Council of IEB. The Executive and Academic Head of ESCB is designated as Rector and is nominated by the Board of Governors and appointed by the Council of IEB.

The apex organization ESCB is engaged in activities that enhances professional capabilities of people in order to ensure their continued suitability. This is an essential requirements for all professionals in the changing world scenario.

The vision of ESCB is "Development of Human Resources for Building Better World".

The Mission of ESCB is "To Perform as the Centre of Excellence for Professional Development".

IEB purchased an area of about 23.5 acres of land from Government of Bangladesh in 1997 near Dhaka side of the Meghna-Gumti Bridge bounded by Dhaka -Chittagong highway on one side and by the Meghna River on the other side. With the Meghna-Gumti Bridge at the background, the site about 40 km from Dhaka City has excellent scenic surroundings and is considered to be a very suitable place for such an institute.

Later, the Government of Bangladesh granted an amount of about 10 crore 90 lac taka for the construction of the First phase of ESCB. On 16 January 2005, the then Hon`ble Prime Minister of the Govt. of the People's Republic of Bangladesh laid the foundation stone of the Main Campus of the ESCB.
